🛍️ Every TikTok could be an ad 👁️ Amazon gets too nosy on employees, gets $35M fine 🛠️ Tradepeople rejoice: Tradekart and Uber Direct partner up

You made it to February! Today we got some news on:

🛍️ Every TikTok could be an ad

👁️ Amazon gets too nosy on employees, gets $35M fine

🛠️ Tradepeople rejoice: Tradekart and Uber Direct partner up

Every TikTok could be an ad

📱 Millions of ads for billions of users

TikTok is testing a feature where “find similar items on TikTok Shop” could appear on every object in a TikTok according to Bloomberg.

This feature was only previously available for approved influencers or brands, but the new version could bring it to all of its 1 billion monthly users. Techjury also reports that 34 million TikToks are posted everyday.

To make things even easier, its TikTok themselves that auto tags the products, so users don’t need to do it manually.

🛍️ Seamless shopping the new thing

Shopping and social media (known as social commerce) is making waves as the new way to advertise.

In November 2023, Amazon debuted the option to buy straight from Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat. TikTok Shop itself was banned in Indonesia for a while before the company invested in Tokopedia, which revived the shop. It was originally banned because it was so popular and could have destroyed Indonesia’s MSMEs.

According to Tidio, Chinese brands have a 30% conversion rate on social media which consists of livestream shopping, influencer marketing, and social media product auctions.

🏭️ Amazon’s practices

Amazon has been fined $35 million by French regulators for having an "excessively intrusive system" to monitor its warehouse employees. The French Data Protection Authority (CNIL), targeted Amazon France Logistique for its strict tracking system.

  • Requiring employees to use barcode scanners to monitor their tasks like storing items on shelves or preparing them for shipment.

  • Sending error messages for actions done “too fast”

  • Tracking idle time of 10 minutes or more,

  • Monitoring interruptions between one and ten minutes.

According to the CNIL, the level of accuracy and detail in measuring work interruptions was illegal since it almost forced employees to justify every break or interruption.

The password to access Amazon’s video surveillance was also not strong enough and was even shared among several users. The data collected from Amazon’s system was also stored for 31 days in which the CNIL deemed too excessive.

Tradepeople rejoice: Tradekart and Uber Direct partner up

❓️ Who’s Tradekart

Tradekart has partnered up with Uber Direct to bring its tradesperson ecommerce to more people in the UK. It can now expand its services to bigger, more crowded areas like the North West region, Liverpool, London, and Manchester.

Tradekart focuses on delivering materials to tradespeople (like carpenters, electricians or plumbers). This saves them the time, money and hassle of traditionally getting materials. Tradekart says that they can deliver in as little as 1 hour.

Caroline Varga, head of Uber Direct UK says that 50% of consumers are more likely to buy from merchants that offer on demand delivery of DIY products.

Uber Direct, on the other hand, lets businesses add on demand delivery to their website or app. Its a fast and reliable way for a better brand experience and is easy to integrate with your system.

“Tradespeople across the UK waste up to five hours each week collecting materials, so we’ve built the TradeKart platform to give them access to their favourite merchants and on demand delivery from the palm of their hand.

Users can place an order in just a couple of minutes and we then deliver their materials to give them valuable time back”

Alistair McAuley, CEO of TradeKart
