Temu will open to US and EU sellers

Temu, one of the top shopping apps in Asia, will be open to US and European sellers in March.

A spokesperson from Temu stated that more information on the move is yet to follow.

Who Temu is

Temu is known for its ultra low prices in exchange for a longer delivery time. Their group discounts were also unique as they let buyers get lower prices by inviting more friends, growing from 0 to 200 million users in 2 years.

Temu was also ranked the 4th best Super Bowl ad in terms of engagement.

Numbers, growth and a loophole

Temu is owned by Pinduoduo, who have recently threatened Alibaba’s throne in the ecommerce industry.

PDD generated $21.8 billion in revenue (94% growth) from first three quarters of 2023. Temu is also the #1 app for the past 3 months (updated Nov, 2023).

Its US shipping loophole has been criticized in the past. Called “De minimis”. This means that packages $800 or less are exempted from tariffs.

1 billion packages entered the US in the fiscal year and 1/3 of these belong to Temu and Shein.
