Good morning! Grab could have a new competitor in the Philippines, GoDaddy drops the truth on what customers want and two Amazon executives leave in under a year.
InDrive could come to the Philippines
❓️ Who they are - InDrive is a ride hailing company founded in Russa but is currently in California. It recently raised $150 million from General Catalyst Partners, bringing its total value to $1.23 billion.
Some of its features include:
⭐️ Ability to select drivers (which also shows rating, vehicle and arrival time)
💬 Prices can be negotiated between drivers and passengers without penalties
🚗 Offers city rides, city-to-city rides, courier and freight delivery
🗺️ Plans for the future - InDrive is currently focusing on finding more drivers, who will receive a $10 fuel voucher and exemption from service fees for a certain period. They have plans on setting up in Bacolod, Baguio, Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro and Butuan,
🥊 Grab’s new challenge - Grab will be their biggest rival in the Philippines. They have 93% of the ride hailing market. 1200 drivers were also interviewed in 2022 stating that 95% intend to keep working as GrabFood delivery drivers. According to Glassdoor, a Grab driver in the Philippines also earns roughly P27,000 per month
73% of Gen Z and Millenials would buy from small businesses if they were more convenient
A study by GoDaddy, a webpage hosting company, released a poll to see whether small business and buyers agree with how they see each other
Here are some of the findings from the survey:
🏪 Only 21% of customers feel that shopping at small businesses is convenient
🛒 73% of Gen Z and 75% Millenials would buy from small businesses if they were more convenient
💳️ 75% of Gen Z and 82% of Millenials think Tap to Pay is important
🛍️ 73% of Gen Z and 83% of Millenials want “Buy Online, Pick Up in Store” options
📦️ 90% want free shipping
📖 60% are more likely to buy if small businesses share personal stories
Two Amazon executives quit within 1 year
✈️ 2nd to leave - Vaishali Kasture, head of AWS India, has quit after only 7 months in the job. She worked in Amazon for 5 years in total as the leader of commercial business at AWS India. There is still no released or confirmed reason behind it this departure.
⛵️ Jumping ship - Amazon India also lost another executive before Vaishali: Puneet Chandok. Puneet originally switched jobs to join a high level position at Microsoft India.
☁️ Cloud money - Both executives left the company despite Amazon’s plan to invest $12.7 billion to build cloud infrastructure in India by 2030. The investment was meant to contribute $23 billion to India’s GDP by 2039
