Amazon gets sued for putting ads in Prime Video

Amazon Prime Video subscribers have had enough with ads, resulting in a lawsuit against the company.

• The accusation? Deceptive practices and false advertising after bringing in ads and having an additional fee to remove them

The heart of the complaint is in the shift from ads free Prime Video to a tiered plan with commercials.

The lawsuit claims it violates the expectations of subscribers who paid for an ad free service, especially those with annual memberships purchased before the change.

Amazon Prime Video used to cost $8.99 per month for Prime Video or $14.99 for Prime subscribers.

Now, if you want an ads free Amazon Prime Video experience, then you need to pay an extra $3 on top of the subscription.

Bezos saves $600 million in taxes

Selling millions to get billions

Jeff Bezos is making big bucks on his sale of company shares. While there are some conflicts of the exact amount of shares sold, some of the reports are:

• Yahoo! says "more than $4 billion gains" for 24 million shares

• Business Insider said that its only a $2 billion gain for just 12 million shares

But no one is sure why

Some analysts say this move was to diversify his portfolio and fund Blue Origin his space exploration venture.

Bezos himself has focused on personal reasons for the move, stating he wants to be closer to family and Blue Origin.

However, the timing aligns with his relocation to Florida, a state with no capital gains tax, unlike his previous home state of Washington.

• Geekwire estimate Bezos could save as much as $600 million in taxes if he ever sells 50 million shares.

The last time Jeff Bezos sold his shares was all the way back in 2021. While there is no final say of why Bezos sold, every report on the reason is just speculation.
