Wing's new delivery drones are now 2x as strong
Wing, the drone delivery service from Alphabet (Google’s parent company) recently unveiled a new fleet of drones with a bigger payload capacity, letting customers order more items in a single delivery.
Wing has been a contender in the drone delivery with over 350,000 deliveries across three continents.
Wing’s drones are known for their speed and autonomy, going from base to doorstep at 65 mph.
They previously could only carry 2.5 pounds of packages
Wing’s newest drones have double the carrying capacity (5 pounds) of their earlier model with a round trip range of 12 miles. They deliver by flying low to the ground and lowering the package.
This means more items in a single delivery, whether you're stocking up on groceries for the week or needing new books fast.
According to Wing, the upgrade is all about customer satisfaction. Their data revealed only 70% of deliveries are delivered by one Wing drone and 30% are from two drones.
The bigger drones eliminate this need, making the overall the delivery process faster.
Walmart is the biggest partner of Wing, who reportedly now has the largest drone delivery footprint in the United States. They have a presence in over 30 towns in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and cover nearly 75% of the population.
