Jakarta has mixed reactions to TikTok Shop’s ban

🔒️ On the ban: In early October, Indonesia banned TikTok Shop to protect MSMEs and the data privacy of its citizens. Indonesia was TikTok’s second largest market with 113 million users
🔎Not the last: Some business owners loved the ban and wanted more of them for other platforms like Shopee, Lazada and Tokopedia (Indonesia’s own ecommerce platform), stating that ecommerce resulted in less foot traffic.
📉 Or is it too much: Some merchants, however, complained that the banning of TikTok Shop led to lower sales.
“Previously, we had at least 200 sales per day. Now we have 10 or 20 using [Singaporean e-commerce portal] Shopee.

MSMEs ride the India ecommerce wave going for $300B in 2030

🌏️ Future leader: India’s ecommerce industry is expected to hit $300B in 2030, making it one of the top leaders globally.
What’s fueling this growth? It’s mainly:
📱 Convenience
💲 Price
🛒 Variety

🔧 More ecommerce tools
📦️Strength in Numbers: MSMEs play a huge part in this industry too, taking up 40% of all of India’s total exports.
