Good morning and happy Wednesday! We got some news on big tech (or big commerce) adding more AI features for their creative teams. We’re also just as surprised as you are to learn that more than half of Americans don’t actually trust social media shops. For those from South Korea, there’s also a big player coming to make shopping better.

Google, Taobao and Amazon step up their AI image game

🔎 Google recently unveiled new shopping features, including Product Studio for sellers. This offers ability to remove or add custom product backgrounds through text prompts and increase resolution.

📦️ Amazon also hit back by creating its own version of AI images. Based on product details, a "Generate” button creates lifestyle and brand themed images and backgrounds just for you.

🍞 It works too: Amazon found that a toaster with a kitchen background got 40% more clicks compared to one with a blank background

💡 Fun Fact:

According to Amazon’s own survey, 75% say that creatives is the hardest parts of marketing campaigns

🇨🇳 Taobao is the biggest online marketplace in China and they created an image generator where items can be made in different positions and backgrounds.

💰️ Bonus for Taobao: They also have 10 AI features that sellers can use. One of them is Wenwen that helps shoppers with discounts like “best mobile phone to buy” or “most value-for-money lipstick”

53% of Americans don’t trust social media shopping, according to AiBuy

Social media shopping (or social commerce) has taken the industry by storm especially with TikTok and Instagram Shop.

🔴 The bad: Americans, however, are having trust issues with these apps. According to a AiBuy survey, most Gen Zs and Millennials worry about:

🟢 The good: It’s not all negative though. 29% said that social commerce is more personalized than the regular ecommerce experience. What is most motivating for social commerce is:

  • Discounts (according to 27%)

  • Interest based ads (21%)

  • Lowest priced options (23%)
