Moxii Round Up - November 6, 2023
Good morning! Happy Monday from us here at Moxii. We got some big news on the huge lawsuit against Amazon and their dirty tactics. Get to understand more of Gen Zs in India (all 116 million of them) and learn about the AI that reminds you that you left your cart open.
Inside Amazon’s massive lawsuit
🇺🇸 Amazon vs. USA: Amazon is being sued by the FTC and 17 states after being accused of being anticompetitive and having unfair strategies to keep their power.
🔎 The details: Amazon allegedly made search worse so that paid ads got more attention. This makes it almost impossible for quality search content to win over sponsored ones. The dirty pricing got almost $1 billion from customers.
“Many results are plainly not what the customer searched for, such as when a LA Lakers t-shirt ad showed up in a search for ‘Seahawks t-shirt’
💬 Secret messages: Executives used encrypted messaging apps like Signal to hide their conversations. Jeff Bezos allegedly knew about the move (although its unclear if he had the app)
👁️ I Spy: Amazon also used web crawlers to see if their own sellers offered lower prices on other platforms. Getting caught meant punishments like:
being ranked lower on search
being removed from the convenient “Buy Box” (80% of Amazon’s sales go through here)
A look at how Gen-Zs shop in India
📈 The new gen: India has the most Gen Zs in the world at 116 million. Some of their characteristics include:
Being independent and self reliant (aka a focus on personal appearance)
Crave authenticity and personality from brands
Love mobile and want a mobile friendly experience
🛒 Companies are taking notice: Some companies are taking advantage of this and adjusting. D2C is more popular because of they are both authentic and personalized. Other examples of other companies include:
Myntra (a fashion brand that focuses on trends first before creating designs)
SPOYL (crawls through fashion social media pages to inspire new designs and products)
Connectly uses AI to remind you to finish buying
📉 Big loss: Brands can loose 38% of customers because of poor marketing personalization efforts.
🤖 Meet Connectly: Thankfully, a startup was able to raise $17.25 million to help prevent this. Connectly uses AI to create campaigns and bots for automated conversations with current and potential customers.
💡 The geniuses behind it: The company was founded by Stefanos Loukakos (former head of Facebook Messenger) and Yandong Liu (former head of engineering of Uber’s machine learning team). Connectly is being used by a lot of other companies, like Mondelez,, Cadbury and Toys R Us among others.
