Malaysia could follow in banning TikTok Shop

⚖️ Ban hammer: Indonesia was the first country in Southeast Asia to ban TikTok’s shop, a massive blow for the company where 113 million of its users live. The ban was to prevent ecommerce transactions in an effort to protect MSMEs and protect user data.

⏩️Trendsetter: Malaysia could soon follow with their own ban citing predatory pricing and data privacy, similar to Indonesia’s reason. Li Jianggan, CEO of research firm Momentum Works, also believes that any seller hurt by social commerce are likely to push for bans against TikTok shop too.
