Inside Shopify's 'Buy with Prime'

Shopify’s history with ‘Buy with Prime’

‘Buy with Prime’ by Amazon was an integration where merchants can sign up to have a ‘Buy with Prime’ button they can add to their template. The integration originally faced resistance from Shopify themselves due to its violation of the platform's terms of service where it brought customers to an external website for checkout.

However, in early September 2023, both companies reached a compromise to address the concern. According to a report by Modern Retail, a new option was introduced, enabling merchants to process payments through Shopify Payments which keeps transactions within the Shopify ecosystem. This compromise allows merchants to seamlessly sell on both Shopify and Amazon.

‘Buy with Prime’ statistics, according to Amazon

The 'Buy with Prime' feature itself has proven to give merchants a boost in conversions and sales. According to Amazon, three out of every four 'Buy with Prime' orders reportedly came from new shoppers.

Amazon also improved the functionality of the integration by adding a cart feature, allowing customers to purchase multiple items in a single transaction. Merchants using the 'Buy with Prime Cart' option experienced a 15% increase in the number of units per order.

Another standout feature is to have Amazon reviews directly placed on merchant websites at no additional cost. ‘Reviews from Amazon’ resulted in a 38% increase in shopper conversion.
