Grab Singapore gets crypto payments
๐ช A crypto dream
Crypto enthusiasts in Singapore are having the last laugh: Grab is now offering crypto payments.
The new feature launched in partnership with licensed payments provider Triple-A, it lets you top up your GrabPay wallet with a different of cryptocurrencies:
You can now use Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Singapore dollar-backed stablecoin XSGD, US dollar-backed stablecoin USDC (managed by Circle), and Tether USDT to fund your GrabPay wallet.
This means your everyday transactions, from booking a ride to picking up groceries, can now be paid by these crypto.
This isn't just convenient for crypto users, it's a big leap forward for the digital asset landscape in Singapore.
๐ก Did you know:
A survey from Coinbase/Seedly said that 57% of Singaporeans interviewed own digital assets
๐ณ๏ธ Fad or future
Embracing crypto payments could mean Grab is getting ahead for wider adoption of digital currencies within the cityโs financial system.
For Grab, this partnership is part of a larger vision for the future. They've started to be involved in the Web3 space for some time now
They announced plans for a pilot Web3 wallet within the Grab app back in September 2023, which lets it access a Web3 Wallet within the app.
Gen AI makes AWS and NVIDIA collaborate
๐ค AI brings tech giants together
AWS and Nvidia are teaming up to bring the new and powerful Nvidia Grace Blackwell GPU platform on the AWS cloud.
This helps anyone working with generative AI, especially those dealing with massive language models.
Here's how it works:
Nvidia's Blackwell is a powerful GPU specifically designed for generative AI.
Imagine being able to create real-time experiences powered by big language models โ that's the kind of power Blackwell offers.
AWS, the top cloud computing platform, is making this power accessible through its Amazon EC2 instances and Nvidia DGX Cloud.
โ The benefits of the collab
Blackwell can handle these complex AI tasks at a fraction of the cost and energy consumption compared to previous systems.
This means faster development cycles, more cost-effective projects, and a greener footprint โ all wins for the AI community.
Security gets better too. AWS and Nvidiaโs combined technologies work together to create a secure environment for your AI projects. No unauthorized access to your data, just pure innovation.
AWS puts it simply: they're making it possible to build and run advanced AI projects on a massive scale, faster, and more securely than before.
African fashion becomes more social with Maka
๐ Finding โtry-onโ influencers
Imagine scrolling through social media, but instead of just seeing perfectly curated photos, you see real people trying on clothes and giving reviews.
That's the idea behind Maka, the newest app for African fashion.
It provides a platform where users can explore different styles and find inspiration from real people, not just unrealistic models.
Founded by Diana Owusu-Kyereko, Maka is all about building trust and empowering users.
โ๏ธ How it works
Unlike traditional online shopping where you might be unsure about quality or fit, Maka uses video. You can connect with creators - who try on clothes and share their experiences, making it easier for you to find an outfit.
You can also share your own style and reviews with the Maka community through short form videos
But Maka isn't just about trendy clothes. Owusu-Kyereko recognized a gap in the market - young Africans who crave authenticity and self-expression.
It has already got over 550,000 downloads and secured $2.65 million in funding to fuel its growth.
