Amazon comes to South Africa - without Prime?

South Africans can finally shop on Amazon. Earlier this month, Amazon launched its online marketplace in the country marking its first.
There's a bit of a twist, though. Unlike its usual approach, Amazon is launching in South Africa without its famous Prime membership program.
- This means no access to Prime Video, free shipping on a bunch of items, or other perks that make Prime users loyal Amazon shoppers.
So, how will Amazon attract customers without Prime? Here's their plan:
- They'll offer a wide selection of products, including both international brands and locally-made goods, across 20 categories.
- Amazon will offer same day or next day delivery for many items.
- They also feature 3000 pick up points
- To make up for the lack of Prime, Amazon will give free delivery on your first order and all subsequent orders over $27.
Amazon is entering a $3 billion South African ecommerce market already crowded with local players like Takealot and Superbalist.
- As of the moment, there is no word on when Amazon will implement Prime to its South African market.
