African fashion becomes more social with Maka
🔎 Finding “try-on” influencers
Imagine scrolling through social media, but instead of just seeing perfectly curated photos, you see real people trying on clothes and giving reviews.
That's the idea behind Maka, the newest app for African fashion.
It provides a platform where users can explore different styles and find inspiration from real people, not just unrealistic models.
Founded by Diana Owusu-Kyereko, Maka is all about building trust and empowering users.
❓️ How it works
Unlike traditional online shopping where you might be unsure about quality or fit, Maka uses video. You can connect with creators - who try on clothes and share their experiences, making it easier for you to find an outfit.
You can also share your own style and reviews with the Maka community through short form videos
But Maka isn't just about trendy clothes. Owusu-Kyereko recognized a gap in the market - young Africans who crave authenticity and self-expression.
It has already got over 550,000 downloads and secured $2.65 million in funding to fuel its growth.
